Mike the Smoothie Guy is Back at Market!

Dear Market Goers,

Wow…what a week!   This week’s e-mail is going to be short  as I am in the process of unpacking from my move last week.  I’m sitting in King Street Coffee rushing to get this out!  Kim, the owner,  is so awesome.  This is one of the rare places in Loudoun County that has excellent customer service.  Others off the top of my head are The Wine Kitchen, Palio’s, Magnolia’s, Nichol’s Hardware….oh, and Purcellville Community Market, of course!

What a treat to have Mike the Smoothie Guy back!  Fresh fruit smoothies are the best…no frozen or canned fruit..and you can get blue agave nectar as a sweetener…And don’t forget to get breakfast at the market….YUMMY BREAKFAST BURRITOS as well as fantastic tacos; your choice of pork, chicken, beef, or shrimp.

Here’s an excerpt from  my favorite quote this week, from the Hazledon.org website …. it’s so true that when we feel weak or afraid, we act weak or afraid.  It’s a good reminder to recognize when you’re in that rut and to get yourself out of it!

Self-image sets the boundaries of individual accomplishment.
  —Maxwell Maltz

The image we have of ourselves is like the blueprint the contractor follows when building a house. When we see ourselves sad or angry, our behavior and personality will match it. When we see ourselves withdrawn and afraid, we seem to avoid activities that involve others. How wonderful that we can change our behavior and thus ourselves by changing the picture we carry in our minds.

Local Fare:  Local Fare is a family owned food vendor whose mission is to introduce innovative cuisine concepts of California to Western Loudoun. Local Fare accomplishes this by using a variety of local ingredients that gives traditional market foods a healthy and fresh twist. As a result, all of our menu items are one of a kind for this area.

Brothers Old Fashioned Bakery -This week Stacy, Jackson and Ben went out and picked cherries and mulberries.  Thus we’ll be offering cherry pie this weekend.

Last week we sold out of pies in the first 20 minutes.  We’re very excited about that :-)   If you are interested in any of our standard offerings or want a special pie, please consider pre-ordering to make sure it’s available.  Orders placed before Wednesday night will be ready for Saturday’s Market.

There are a few changes coming up in our product offerings, mostly good, but one not-so-good.

  • Chocolate Chip Muffins
    • Good news:  Starting this weekend we’re going to start offering a 4-pack of the muffins for $10.
  • Eggs
    • Good news:  We’re now purchasing our eggs from Liberty Hill Farm.  Our previous eggs were good, these are much, much better.  We use a lot of eggs in the Chocolate Pecan Pie.
  • Chocolate Pecan Pie
    • Not-so-good news:  Our supplier of pecans has raised their prices.  We could either decrease the amount of pecans and keep the price the same or increase it just enough to cover the difference. We’ve decided to keep the quality the same and raise the price by $2.  The new price will go into effect next weekend (July 2nd).
    • Good news:  The price increase of pecans now puts us in the ball-park of using a higher grade of pecans.  Thus, in 2 weeks we’ll shift from using Raw pecans from Mexico to using Organic Gluten Free Raw Pecans grown in the US.
