Dear Market Goers,
This week will be the biggest and best market ever! We have so many great products and vendors this year, it is astounding. We have been working on giving our customers a wider variety of great quality, local products and I must admit: we are darn near the perfect market!
We have a special, drop-in vendor this week. Many of you know Jon Van Sice of Blue Ridge Gardens. His beautiful landscape plants will be dropping-in this week, so be sure to stop by and pick up some his beautiful, high-quality, landscape plants. AND FINALLY, next week, Mike the Smoothie Guy and Kilmer Orchards will be starting…then Payne’s berries will be back as soon as the raspberries come in. This week, we are SALAD CAPITAL of Loudoun, in a few weeks we will be BERRY CAPITAL of the world!
What an awesome grand opening last week! Thanks to all of you that came out ….it was wonderful to see so many customers get up earlier than usual, including some of our Town Council members: Mayor Bob Lazaro, Tom Priscilla, Joan Lehr, Doc Wiley, and Keith Melton. PCM realizes that without the support of our Town Government and Town Staff, our market wouldn’t be the sweet little community event that it is. It’s great to have so many people working together in our community to make it a such great place to live. And Jake and the Burtones got up WAY EARLIER than usual to be there (I know that was tough..thanks boys)…Let me tell you, it was pretty special! Check out the Purcellville Gazettte for some pics of the event as well as our PCM facebook Page.
Hope y’all liked the new t-shirts and cookbooks we gave away and wait until you see our cute new bumper stickers which are supposed to arrive today via UPS. Everyone that came to the ribbon cutting and didn’t get a t-shirt or cookbook, please see my dear friend, Susana Calley, who will be managing the market tomorrow and she will give you one.
WE GOTS GREENS THIS WEEK! So be prepared to eat extra healthy on Memorial Day weekend. When you arrive at market, first get a cuppa coffee and a breakfast burrito (Oh my gosh, we’re those ever good last week?). By then you’ll have a big smile on your face, so make eye contact and say hello to everyone you see. Then get some chips and salsa as a snack for the weekend. Next, pick out a coupla bottles of incredible wines, then some tasty meats for the grill: steaks, brats, chops, chicken….some artisan breads, then get veggies like letttuce or salad mix, along with some onions, asparagus, pickles…then get some desserts…like cookies, cupcakes, (remember, we even have Gluten-Free baked goods), then some Hickory syrup to put on your Sunday morning pancakes, then get some soap so you’ll feel nice and clean after all that eating! Yep, I think we’ve got you covered…..you are SET for the weekend.
The beautiful Ellen James will be playing her divine music on Celtic Harp and Tabby Finch and Pat Egan (and possiblysome friends) will be playing a variety of great tunes for the market. Don’t forget to tip.
Check our facebook page for updates and don’t forget if your web browser messes with the formatting of this e-mail, go to www.purcellvillecommunitymarket.com to view this e-mail in all it’s glory!
My favorite quote this week is by Melody Beattie:
Sometimes we experience times of frustration in our life. We believe we’re on track, trusting our Higher Power and ourselves…yet things don’t work out. We have false starts and stops. The door refuses to swing wide open. We may wonder if our Higher Power has abandoned us, or doesn’t care. We may not understand where we’re going, or what our direction is. Then one day we see the reason we didn’t get what we wanted was because something much better was planned for us.
I don’t know about you, but reading that makes me feel hopeful when things don’t turn out the way I wanted and I am faced with the realization that I can’t control everything in the universe…
DON’T FORGET!!!! It is not too late to donate to the Purcellville Community Market’s grassroots effort to raise funds to finish up The Last Hardware Store, a beautiful documentary about one of our hometown treasures, Nichol’s Hardware. If you didn’t read the market e-mail where I made a compelling case as to why donating to the completion of this movie is a GREAT IDEA, or you just want to refresh your memory, click here! Thanks to those of you who have already donated. Through $25-$100 dollar donations we’ve managed to raise over $1,00o through contributions from PCM as well as customers like you! And you get your name in the credits at the end of the film for donating..I felt kind of proud seeing Purcellville Community Market up there on the big screen!

As the summer starts heating up and your garden begins to thrive, so too do the bugs. As you finish planting your garden, consider using repellant planting to help manage pests. Did you know that if you plant green beans with potatoes you can help control the Colorado potato beetle? Check out this list to see what else could help. Happy Gardening!
