Methinks Spring is Upon Us!

Dear Market Goers,

Mark Fedor, Best winemaker in Loudoun County!

We have some great news about one of our vendors!  North Gate  been working hard to open their brand new tasting room, and let me tell you, this is some special tasting room!  This Saturday is opeening day so after you come to the market (of course) head North on Hillsboro Road and between the market and Hillsboro, you’ll see the sign for North Gate (16031 Hillsboro Road).  They are open from 11am to 6pm. From then on, they will be open the same hours Fridays thru Mondays.  Their 2009 Petit Verdot will also be released in conjunction with the opening.  Not only is the tasting room a thing of beauty, it is built to  LEED silver standards and is already generating energy to feed back to the grid with its rooftop solar panels!!  Check out updates and photos on their facebook page North Gate Vineyard.  Congratulations Mark and Vicki!!

And don’t forget that Lothar’s Gourmet Sausages has a store at their house where you can get Lothar the Great’s sausages when the market isn’t open.  Check out their facebook page too for more information and hours of operation.

Thank you to Linna Ferguson, aka Linna the Locavore, for coming to the market last week to talk with our vendors about square foot gardening!  Don’t forget her gardening tips farther down in the newsletter.

Thanks Ellen James for her fantastic vocals and Celtic harp…and Jake and the Burtones for playing their awesome tunes for the people of Purcellville!  They will be at the market again this week!

Here’s who’s at the market this week….

Laura, of Herban Avenues, has this message for PCM customers:

This week we are featuring HERB SPLASH – pure herb aroma spritzers

Lavender dispels stress and helps you sleep!

Rosemary/Eucalyptus dispels germs and wakes you up! (So that’s one for the car and one for the bedroom)

We also made a new rub on parfum which is unisex (for him or her).  It’s one of a kind since I didn’t write the recipe down…..it will never be created again.  It contains:  Patchouli, clove, vanilla, bayleaf and balsam wood.

Joey Coburn

Joey, of Cornerstone Bakery, has a message:

This week we will have five flavors of cupcakes which include Double Chocolate (dark chocolate cake with white chocolate buttercream),  Sticky Toffee Pudding (dense dark toffee soaked cake with sweet whipped cream topping),  Vanilla Vanilla (some decorated for St. Patricks Day and some regular), Espresso and  Pancakes & Bacon (buttermilk cake with maple buttercream and bacon on top).  One thing I have been telling people about the Sticky Toffee Pudding is that if you are bringing it home and want to be super indulgent have it with a scoop of ice cream.  It sort of takes it to the next level. You will not be disappointed.
You can always pre-order cupcakes, donuts or dog treats by e-mailing me at joey@cornerstonebakedgoods.com.  I also have free local delivery during the week so if you ever have an office function or want to treat your co-workers with cupcakes or donuts just let me know.
I will have donuts at the market this week.  They are baked cake donuts and the flavors include plain chocolate, plain vanilla, cinnamon sugar, chocolate covered vanilla, chocolate glazed and chocolate chocolate.  They are delicious, filling and addictive (in a good way!).

We will have our all-natural sugar free Doggie Delicious Cookies and Pupcakes at the market this week.  I have a lot of repeat customers on my dog treats.  I think the dogs really love the taste of something that has real good ingredients.  Also, for the dog cookies I have new shapes which include bones and fire hydrants.  There are also now 4 cookies in a package but the same great cookie recipes.

Betty, of Betty’s Salsa, will have her to-die-for corn chips, bean dip, salsa and enchiladas.  You gotta get there early to get somadem enchiladas!

Erica, of The Magnolia Girls, will be back with her delicious breads and cookies.  Can’t wait to get some of the best ginger cookies around!

Rob, of Community Gardens, will be back this week with the goods…the best greens and arugula around!

Handsome Hondo!

Hondo Coffee and Pickled Goods.  - He’s coming with his local and non-local pickled goods…tasty pickles, sauerkraut, pickled beets…..and coffee.

Here’s a message from the Matich’s of Liberty Hill Farm:

Liberty Hill Farm provides pastured raised chicken, free range eggs and freshly ground whole wheat breads.

Unlike the conventional store bought chicken, our pasture-raised chickens are raised on fresh grass and non-GMO(Genetically Modified Organisms) feed.    Fresh grass is extremely good for the chickens and contribute to a good taste and nutrition to the consumer.   GMOs are detrimental to your health.   A good book to read concerning this issue is “Seeds of Deception”.

Free range eggs are very healthy for you as they create the “perfect food”, providing a perfect balance of Omega 3 and 6.  Confined chickens have unbalanced Omegas and actually produce eggs that are not as healthy for you.    A good book to read that describes the benefits of free range eggs is “Nourishing Traditions”.

Our organic whole wheat products include:  freshly ground whole wheat bread, pizza crusts, apple cinnamon bread, cinnamon raisin bread and  delicious chocolate chip cookies.   We also provide apple cinnamon, cinnamon rolls and granola.      Our product provides a couple of characteristics that are beneficial to you:  organic and freshly ground.   Organic wheat can’t have pesticides used on them or in the ground where they grow.    The benefit to you is that you don’t have chemicals going into your organs which is obviously not good for you.  We freshly ground our wheat before we bake–thus preserving the best nutrition for you.   Any type of flour found in packages in stores have been robbed of 25 to 30 vitamins/minerals in order to allow the flour to last for a very long time.   This is good for the flour business but is extremely bad for you.

Visit our website at www.LibertyHillFarmVA.com to get more information about our products or to place orders for market pickup.   See you at the market!

Lothar has a message for you!

Dear Valued Customers and Friends of Good Taste,

You all heard about the nice weather we are supposed to have this weekend so how about putting those grills to work to kick off a season! We will bring everything that can be put on the grill to the market. Fresh cut steaks, fresh sausages, and our delicious bacons will be available for your enjoyment.

One suggestion from one of our customers with All Beef TexMex :

 1. Take the casing out, crumble sausages and brown them
 2. Fry onions and some bell peppers (green, red or whatever color combination)
 3. Mix 1 & 2
 4. Serve over bed of quinnoas ( or pasta) with some of Rob’s Greens from the market
or what I did, mix 1 & 2 and serve with soft corn or flour tortillas with sour cream, chopped tomatoes, extra grated cheese(cheddar or taco cheese mix)

You’d have a very delicious meal in a cinch. Guten Appetit :-)
Let us meat at the market

The Stifler Family of What’s for Dinner Now will be bringing their delicous, all-natural, pasture-raised, grain-finished beef (www.whatsfordinnernow.com). Here’s a message from Joyce:

The third generation of Stifler farmers – Josh and Heather – will be taking care of the natural beef sales for Whats For Dinner Now this Saturday, March 12th.  They’ve agreed to help out this week so that Mom & Dad can skip off to Florida for the week to visit the grandparents.  Stop by and make your selection from our variety of steaks, roasts, burgers, ribs, sausage and more.  Our angus beef is farm raised and is never fed growth hormones or antibiotics.  Natural beef is not only a healthy choice, but its oh so flavorful.  Buy plenty to last for two weeks because we’re going to take a break and won’t be at the market on March 19th.  But, we’ll be back in business for the March 26th market.  Thank you for your business!
