Two things we run out of the most we will have in abundance this week. Rob will have his lettuce mix and arugula…we sure missed him….and don’t forget……we have lots of eggs!!!!
Update on Erica, of The Magnolia Girls: She had her gall bladder out and will be back next week. I was having some tea with some of her ginger cookies today…they are absolutely the best ginger cookies I’ve ever had…there’s something about the taste, the texture and the light dusting of sugar on the top…mmmmm..I keep them in the freezer and love to eat them cold with hot tea. Can’t wait until she gets back!
Thanks to Ellen James, our ethereal Celtic harpist, and to Mucho Gusto played at the market last week…they are awesome! Check out their music at http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7910530. Upstairs, Treasure and Samuel Matich played the violin…it was quite a musical day. If you know anybody who would like to play at the market, send them our way!
The kids from Woodgrove and Loudoun Valley High Schools will be at the market again this week collecting gently used jeans for homeless teens …so support the Teens for Jeans drive!
We hope you stop by in all kinds of weather now. If you’re coming from the east, it’s just the first right past the town hall and then up the block on your left. Look for the signs. Don’t forget, there is parking in the town lot down the street and also behind It’s Bazaar. Don’t park in the little parking lot between Nichol’s Hardware and It’s Bazaar. We want to be good neighbors to our favorite hardware store!!! We’ll see you there from 10-1.
Here’s who’s at the market this week….
Our newest Vendor is TOATS, a wheat, egg, and dairy-free cookie made right here in Loudoun County! They have 0 trans fats and even the box is organic. Stop by and chat with Marisol about her journey creating this unique product andask for a taste these delicious, healthy snacks (www.toatsorganic.com).
Rob, of Community Gardens, WILL BE HERE THIS WEEK!!! Boy do I miss him and his goods! Haven’t had a decent salad in two weeks……..
Here’s a message from the Matich’s of Liberty Hill Farm:
We will be selling pastured raised chicken, free range eggs and whole wheat products. Our chicken is offered as whole, skinless, boneless breasts and in parts. We also provide chicken livers, necks and feet. Our free range chickens (which are in the freezer now), foraged grass and were given non-GMO feed. GMO grains are polluting our food supply and are deteriorating the our health. Not many places offer this kind of feed–we travel 2 hours to obtain it in order to produce the best products we can.
Free range eggs are very healthy for you as they create the “perfect food”, providing a perfect balance of Omega 3s and 6s. Confined chickens mess up this perfect balance of Omegas and actually produce eggs that are not as healthy for you. Our organic whole wheat products includes: freshly ground whole wheat bread, pizza crusts, apple cinnamon bread, cinnamon raisin bread and delicious chocolate chip cookies. We also just introduced apple cinnamon and cinnamon rolls.
Stop by Liberty Hill Farm’s table to buy your eggs, chicken and whole wheat products or just to visit. We do enjoy the conversations. You may visit our website at www.LibertyHillFarmVA.com to get more information about our products or to place orders for market pickup. See you at the market.

Yes, Ken and his grandson made a special trip to the farm on Monday to get some fresh goat’s milk, so very soon you can expect more Goat’s Milk & Lavender, too! Liz Soaps will not be back at the market until February 12th. We plan to be at the market every other Saturday after this week until the end of March.

Joey, of Cornerstone Bakery, says:
While I had a fun weekend of skiing with my family, my mother, Gloria, did the market solo for me this past weekend. She has been down in Florida so has not been at the market recently. She said it was great to see so many familiar faces and catch up with everyone. I will be back at the market this week while my mom flies off to India for a couple of weeks to volunteer for a polio eradication program through Rotary International. We wish her a safe journey and lots of success.
As far as cupcakes are concerned we will have the same flavors for the next few weeks. The flavors are Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel, Vanilla Vanilla, Pancakes & Bacon, Espresso, German Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Covered Banana. Don’t forget that if you buy six you get one free cupcake or if you would like you can substitute 2 free donuts.
Speaking of donuts, we will have delicious, fresh-baked cake donuts at the market. Pick some up to bring home for the weekend or to have with your morning coffee while walking around the market.
Our dog treats include Doggie Delicious Cookies and Pupcakes. The dogs love ‘em so why not give your dog a special treat this week?
As always, I take custom orders for your party needs. Just e-mail me at joey@cornerstonebakedgoods.com and let me know what you need. You can pick up your order at the market or I can deliver them to you during the week.
The Stifler Family of What’s for Dinner Now will be bringing their delicous, all-natural, pasture-raised, grain-finished beef (www.whatsfordinnernow.com).
Chris Carey, of HarvestMarket, will have the following incredible prepared foods made with fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. Here’s a message from his food blog….
What is mise en place? Simply, it is a French term defined as “everything in its place.” “Place” refers to having one’s ingredients, cooking equipment, recipes, etc in place and ready for service. It allows the cook to be more efficient. Mise en place works outside the kitchen as well. Organize garden tools, arts and crafts, and tools so that you are not searching for them the next time, thus being more efficient.
One of the chefs I worked for always commented: “Clean organized space, good place, and an understanding of what you are cooking will lead to a good service.” Words to live by!

Braised chicken legs in a spicy tomato sauce
Shaved Brussels sprouts with a bacon-lemon dressing

Everona is atop a limestone ridge with its delicious sweet water, and is covered by the rich red Piedmont soil that grows lush and tender grasses.
