Fun Times in Old Town P’ville!

Dear Market Goers,

Vicki Fedor with The Polka Dots in the background

Thanks for making our first anniversary so memorable!  Wow, what a great time we had indoors at It’s Bazaar!  We were a little anxious about how people would feel about coming indoors for the market but everything turned out splendidly.  It was crowded, noisy, and fun…perfect!  It’s been a cold winter and last Saturday was no exception.  We were SO happy to be indoors and out of the snow. Thanks to the owners and staff of It’s Bazaar for all the hard work they put into moving their merchandise and mopping up the floors afterwards.  Check out the story in the Purcellville Gazette!

Thanks to the Polka Dots (http://thepolkadots.org) who played with style!  This week we’ll have Old Rag Mountain Remedy, can’t wait to hear them.   And how did you like that new sheep cheese vendor, Everona Dairy (www.evaronadairy.com)?  Wow….the cheese, the olive tampenade, and the lamb summer sausage are fantastic!  Check out the picture I posted of yesterday’s lunch at my desk on the market facebook page.

The fabulous Polka Dots!

Next week, January 22, we will be welcoming Herban Avenues to the market.  They will have Herbal teas with spice, mint, and fruit choices, as well as teas for cold/flu.  They will also have  Balms, Creams, Lotions, scented bath items;  herbal seasoning blends to add to soups, dips, roasting meats.  Everything you need to get through a cold/dry winter season.  What a great addition to our winter market!

And now on a more serious note, we will have students from Woodgrove and Loudoun Valley HIgh Schools right at the market this week doing a  good deed for the community. Here’s how YOU can help with that good deed!

There’s a problem out there with teen homelessness.  Their club, Loudoun Do Something Now!, a teen volunteer andleadership network is collecting gently used jeans for homeless teens in the area.  This is a national project that the club does each  year with Aeropostale, a fun clothing store for middle and high schoolers.  Aeropostale actually distributes the collected jeansto shelters and organizations that have asked for this assistance.  Our goal is to collect 100 pairs of jeans from now until Feb. 12th.

So, the more the merrier! Bring your unwanted jeans in any size at all—kids, adult, teen—to the market and add them to this club’s collection. You’ll be doing a lot of good for a lot of thankful people. Make sure they are clean and only gently used…..style doesn’t matter. For more info, email: loudoundsnow@aol.com.

And don’t forget Old Town Live tomorrow…no need to stray too far from home…hang around in good old P’ville on Friday Night and walk around to the new shops, taste wine, and listen to music.  I’m kinda proud that we’re going to have our own Friday event…I love Leesburg First Fridays..  I know It’s Bazaar and Shamrock Music Shoppe will have bands that evening and the band at It’s Bazaar will also play at the market on Saturday.

Check out the Loudoun Grown Expo at http://loudoungrownexpo.blogspot.com/.  The Town of Purcellville is working to bring Loudoun’s wineries, CSAs, producers and local restaurants that utilize local foods under one roof for all to enjoy! The event will run from 2 to 6pm on February19th at the Bush Tabernacle (skating rink).

Like I said last week, we hope you stop by in all kinds of weather now.  If you’re coming from the east, it’s just the first right past the town hall and then up the block on your left.  Look for the signs.  Don’t forget, there is parking in the town lot down the street and also behind It’s BazaarDon’t park in the little parking lot between Nichol’s Hardware and It’s Bazaar.  We want to be good neighbors to our favorite hardware store!!!  We’ll see you there from 10-1.

Joey, of Cornerstone Bakery says:

It was great to see a lot of familiar faces at our first indoor market.  I think we all appreciated being warm.  Last week Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel and Pancakes & Bacon were the big sellers.  It is so great to see people try new things.

This week the flavors will be the same as last week.   I will have Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel (inspired by my son’s love of peanut butter filled pretzels!) which is a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and crushed pretzels on top, German Chocolate Cake which is a chocolate cake with a nut and toffee topping, Vanilla Vanilla, Espresso (IT’S BACK!), Chocolate Covered Banana which is a banana cake with chocolate buttercream and Pancakes & Bacon (yes, it’s true) which is a buttermilk cake with a maple buttercream and crumbled bacon on top.  It is sweet, savory and salty.

I will have donuts so be sure to stop by and grab some to bring home or to enjoy while browsing around.

I will have Pupcakes & Doggie Delicious Cookies.  We are back to the regular yogurt colors on the cookies.  Don’t forget to treat your dog as well as yourself.

Everona Dairy (www.evaronadairy.com), from Rapidan Virginia, makes several aged, unpasteurized, sheep’s milk cheeses in the Piedmont of Virginia.  Their website says, “The Piedmont  region of Virginia is the foothills of the ancient and beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.  Everona is atop a limestone ridge with its delicious sweet water, and is covered by the rich red Piedmont soil that grows lush and tender grasses.  Stop by and say hi to Rick…
