Dear Market Goers,
(Note: I’m quizzing my 11th grader on his vocab words as I’m writing this, so I’m probably going to be using those words in this e-mail, they will be highlighted in purple! You’re never too old to learn, ya know! )
YEAH…we know it’s going to be cold, BUT….WE WILL BE THERE WITH A FERVOR of spirit and with the fire pit a-roarin’! We know times are tough. We know how hard it is to get out from under your toasty warm covers, get dressed, leave the house and venture out into the stark, frigid, winter weather. You bet we know! But we bringing you the best, fresh, local food for you and your family!!!!! And we appreciate you supporting us in the easy AND the more difficult times. AND it beats freezing your buns off in those insipid, stale, grocery stores.
After that guilt trip, I feel kind of wimpy telling you that starting January 8th, we will be moving indoors. YES!!! We are teaming up with It’s Bazaar on 21st street, the white building to the right of Nichol’s Hardware. What a fabulous business it is! Actually, downtown Purcellville has really changed since I moved here almost 20 years ago. With the addition of Shamrocks, the Celtic Shoppe, Re-Love It…it definitly has an energy that was missing before. It’s Bazaar has lots of goods by local artisans that do folk art, jewelry, glass blowing…a hodge podge of really interesting items from antiques, knitted goods, art, photographers, you name it. And they have Black Dog Coffee…..Definitely the best coffee shop in P’ville!!! Anyway, they will be moving their goods around to accommodate our vendors on both floors of their establishment, every Saturday from 10 to 1. I think it will be a perfect match. The owners are neither austere, nor banal, but rather, they are provocative, enthusiastic, creative and are happy to team up with the Best Little Market in Loudoun. We will be there January, February, and March.
So, we’ll not only be at Town Hall on Saturday, but we’ll be there on Thursday, December 23rd, for a 2 hour Market Christmas Party from 11 to 1, just so you can pick up some great food for Christmas! It will be a smaller group of vendors but it will be a super-fun, Market Christmas Party with free hot chocolate and who knows what else…maybe some chicken chili????? Or should we do beef? Certainly, nothing banal. Don’t vascillate between chicken and beef…tell me your favorite!! I’ll send out an e-mail and let you know who will be there next week.
Loved our sweet parade last week! My favorites were the bagpipes (there’s something about bagpipe music that travels straight to my soul), the gigantic draught horses and carriage from Ayrshire Farm, and the random dog and pony businesses…..with dogs and ponys all dressed up in random Christmas outfits….it was pretty funny!
And my apologies to WagenBURG Farm of Middleburg….yep…burg, not berg….I spelled it wrong and so if you clicked on the website, you know your search engine became suddenly dazed and confused with the effort. Michael Calley will be there again this week, providing firewood for the market and information about their tree farm and their hay, www.wagenburgfarm.net.
So, didja see this quarter’s Loudoun Magazine? There were great articles about TWO of our vendors!!!! Bob and Violet Lebreque of 1st AVE Bakery were featured in the Neighbors section, complete with a cute photo of their cute selves… and there was an article about Lothar, with maginificent pictures of his Market BLT and one with him holding a big cleaver with June behind him…..get yourself a copy! Check Loudoun Magazine’s facebook page for a list of stores that carry their magazine.
As for holiday gifts, don’t head out to the mall….shop in town. Why, as a matter of fact, we have lots of great things for the holidays at our market. What host wouldn’t want a cookie tray from The Magnolia Girls or a fantastic pie from 1st AVE Bakery, a holiday Beef gift pack from What’s for Dinner Now, a box of exquisite handmade chocolates from Chef Chris or some of Lothar’s tasty bacon or brats? Bars of Liz Handcrafted Soaps are great gifts…who doesn’t need the purest, best soap around and it fits perfectly into a stocking! How about a beautiful photo of Loudoun from Dave Levinson? I’m just sayin’….we have great stuff! Save time, gas money and headaches and feed the local economy!!!
DON’T FORGET…NEW HOURS ARE 10-1.

Michael Calley, manager of Wagenburg Farm in Middleburg, will be supplying our market with firewood and selling bundled firewood to our customers …and less expensive than the convenience and grocery stores. He is also offering cord and half cord, delivered free if you live in Loudoun County.. Wagenberg Farm also has a tree farm, so stop by and talk to Michael about wood, trees and hay…Fun fact about Michael, he was actually the manager of the Purcellville Farmers Market when he was a younger lad (we’re the same age so I guess he’s still pretty young) when it started in Round Hill, moved to the IGA Parking Lot, and then to the 21st Street parking lot! Check the farm out at .www.wagenburgfarm.net.
