Dear Market Goers,
Wow! What a celebration last week! Thank you for coming out to the Spring/Summer opening of the “Best Little Market in Loudoun”. It was a beautiful event with a grand feeling of community. I want to thank our Mayor, Bob Lazaro, for being there for us and to our Celtic Harp Player, Ellen James who provided beautiful music. Bobbie Elliot was there from Healthy by Nature and was a great inspiration to some of our vendors. She’ll be back at the market next week. We gave free violas to those who attended our ribbon cutting, compliments of Gonzales Produce…Thanks Joaquin! If you didn’t make it, you can read about it and actually relive it on video by going to http://www.leesburg2day.com/articles/2010/05/07/news/9750purcellvillemarket050310.txt.
This week we’re having Linna the Locavore talking about Square Foot Gardening starting at 10 am. We also have alot of Asparagus at the market and will be handing out recipes.
This e-mail is a lot late and I apologize…boy has it ever been been a big day, you don’t know the half of it! Two of our customers had ribbon cuttings opening their new businesses. Big shout out to Catoctin Creek Distillery in Purcellville (http://catoctincreekdistilling.com/ makers of organic spirits (including my personal favorite: whiskey) and LaRue Wellness, owned by Stacy LaRue, (http://laruewellness.com/) a holistic nutrition and health counseling as well as personal fitness training and Pilates, a one-stop-shop for all of your wellness needs. Both events were fantastic celebrations with good food, good people and great spirit. Check them out.
In an effort to get this out quickly, I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Our regular, first-class, outstanding, fabulous vendors that have been here for you week after week, through thick and thin, will be there with their fantastic goods. And I hope you enjoyed our new vendors last week, Meredith Kope of Singing Frog Farms, Mike Schreiber with his Fresh Fruit Smoothies and Betty’s Foods.
And that’s not all…we have more vendors for you! I am so pleased that we have three new vendors here this week to add to our already great list of awesome, good-natured folks, bringing you the best products and the best customer service.
Welcome Over the Grass Farm from The Plains. They will be bringing beef, lamb, honey, eggs, baby Leeks, bunching onions, tri-color radishes, Hakurei turnips, beets and fennel. I used to work there a few years back and I’m telling you, their products are top-notch!
We are also welcoming F&V Farm, a shiitake ranch owned by Vera and Floyd Blethen. They’ll be rounding up some shiitakes and bringing them to market….I can’t wait!! Shiitake’s are so tasty and so good for you!
Notaviva Vineyards is coming to our market as our newest vintner! They are an exciting couple who’s winery won the 2008 Loudoun Agriculture Small Business of the Year award. I’ve been out to their place to taste wine and listen to their awesome entertainment.
Cutting this short because I’ve been under the weather this week and need to get to bed. Some of you will count this as a blessing. Not a novel this week, just a novella. But just wait for next week…
And don’t forget, we are on www.loudounfarms.org and we post pictures of happy customers and vendors each week on the Purcellville Community Market Facebook page.
So come out on Saturday, stop by and buy some great food, have a chat with your vendors and neighbors, sip some fresh coffee, or drink a refreshing smoothie and have a bite to eat. We will be there from 9 to 12 at the Town Hall Parking lot at 130 E. Main Street in beautiful, downtown Purcellville. Look for the cannon…it’s point’n right at us!
Happy Eating,
