Dear Market Goers,

Tomorrow is May Day and the start of our new market season. Come out and celebrate farmers, producers, and your community by attending our

!!!!!!!!!!! Market Celebration !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, the market hours are changing this week.  Market will start at 9 am

and some of Town Council members,  followed by an introduction of all of our vendors

and “market characters” such as Lovely Linna the Locavore, Susana Calley, and hired

gun Frankie Stephan as well as Bobbie Elliott.  Bobbie will be giving the kickoff lecture

in our Healthful Eating Workshop Series “Why Shop at Farmers Markets?”.  She is

an herbalist and owner of “Healthy by Nature” in Leesburg and will be talk about

why eating fresh foods are better for your health and will also be there to answer

your questions.

NEXT WEEK:  Square Foot Gardening by Linna the Locavore and

Asparagus Festival….lots of Asparagus and lots of info on its nutritional value

as well as recipes….

And now for our three newest vendors….(drum roll please).

We are welcoming Meredith Kope of Singing Frog Farms this week.  She will

have heirloom vegetables and cut flowers.  She’s cute as a button and has that

positive “Community Market Attitude”.  She’s going to be a great addition to

the market.  Can’t wait for you to see her stuff.

We will also be welcoming Betty, of Betty’s Foods, this week.  She will have

chips, black bean soup, bean dip, enchiladas and tacquitos…All home-made!

I can’t wait to take git me some o’dat!

AND we’ll have incredible, FRESH FRUIT smoothies at the market this week!

The lovely and talented Mike Schreiber will start this week providing customers

with fresh fruit smoothies.  No high-fructose corn syrup in these babies!

Lothar, the German Master Artisan Butcher, and the lovely June have this message

for market customers.

We will have Famous and well-recognized Brats coming from the city of Nuerenberg and some

surrounding areas, it’s recipe that can be traced back for more than 500 years. Every Master

Butcher qualified in Germany should be able to produce them with little bit of their own personal

touch. I produce them with a bit  of updated spices to cater to the palate of 21st century thanks to

the introduction of many spices since the medieval time has enriched our taste buds.

ABSOUTELY NO CHEMICALS.  It’s taste ranges mild appealing to children and adults alike.  It can accompany any potato dish beautifully with a bit of spicy mustard for a nice meal or simply in a nice

bread for a healthy and wholesome snack,,,yum. Yummy, yummy, good for my tummy, Guten Appetit !

Stop by and try samples of their many great products as well as get yourself some

“Lunch by Lothar”. This week’s lunch is grilled brat and grilled schwencksteak sandwiches…..

Marion and Harold from Manna Food For Life will have a wide variety of regular

and gluten-free baked goods.

Oak Springs Dairy’s cheeses will be at the market this week with their whole milk,

raw cheeses.  Ask the charming Pamela WHO JUST HAD HER BIRTHDAY, to tell

you which cheeses go with North Gate’s award-winning wines.

Rob Young, from Community Gardens, will be at the market with his kick-butt greens!

He will also have arugula, salad turnips, spinach, cooking greens, herbs, as well as

his “Grinning Greens Salad Dressing and Marinade”.  He will also be selling

Kilmer Orchards’ asparagus and apples and onions.

Cross your fingers that Dayspring Farm and Fort Bacon will be at the market this

week.  Jessie just had her baby last week but all bets are off when you have a

new baby….. (I know from experience).  Congratulate her and Sean when you see them at the market!!!!

Liz Handcrafted Soaps will have all of their wonderful soaps….I just love the feel

of their soap and the wonderful aromas….bought three bars for gifts for our

administrative ladies at work.  I think they finally like me now…

The Magnolia Girls will be bringing their usual incredible selection of cookies,

bars, sweet breads and scones.  Contact them for special orders!  Kim

at kim.magnoliagirls@yahoo.com or Erica at erica.magnoliagirls@yahoo.com.

Joaquin, of Gonzales Produce, will be bringing a selection of bedding plants

including tomatoes, peppers, herbs, petunias begonias, violas, and snapdragons.

He will also have tomato hanging baskets, as well as petunia and basil hanging

baskets.  He’ll also be bringing strawberries that he has been babying over the

winter with floating row covers, and some veggies too…. learned something

interesting this week…the extensive snow cover actually helped strawberries come

in earlier this year because they provided a blanket of protection which, in turn,

prevented winter temperature fluctuations which stress exposed plants.

Hardworking Hondo from Hondo Coffee will be at the market this week with

hot coffee by the cup, coffee beans from his plantation in Honduras, and those

tasty pickles (not local, but delicious)!  He has perfected the recipe for pickled beets!!!

And don’t forget, we are on www.loudounfarms.org, and we post pictures of

HAPPY customers and vendors each week on the Purcellville Community Market

Facebook page.

So come out on Saturday, stop by and buy some great food, have a chat with your

vendors and neighbors, sip some fresh coffee, and have a bite to eat while you

warm yourself by the fire.  We will be there from 10 to 1 at the Town Hall Parking

lot at 130 E. Main Street in beautiful, downtown Purcellville.  Look for the

cannon…it’s point’n right at us!

Happy Eating,
